Moonwater Lake - November 2002
Having fished Rockwall the previous day in a league final and catching only small fish between 100 and 200g I needed to get a decent carp on the line again.  After church, my wife, daughters and I drove out to Moonwater Lake in the Magaliesburg for an afternoon's outing.  Being only 40km from Krugersdorp, this venue can be fished in an afternoon session.

The previous trip to this dam, resulted in a good catch of carp between 1-2.5kg on Stevensons Aniseed floaties.  The traces were loaded with both the large and new small floaties with various dips on the ball.  After an hour and a half and no success, I decided to try the TCP Caramel and Fluoro mixture that had brought me success at Loch Vaal the previous weekend.  Within half an hour I landed the 1st of 7 carp on this ball dip and 2 small Stevensons floaties on each hook.  My daughter also managed a carp on this combination.

The fish were not more than a kg, but a carp in the 5kg range plus did pick one of the baits, whilst I was assisting my daughter to find feathers for her project.  My wife after fighting the fish for several minutes, lost it on another second hand broken trace.  During the day, I witnessed a couple of good carp turning and upon leaving, spoke to Karel the owner, who assured me that specimens in the 20 and 30 pound range exist in this dam, but are normally caught on boilies.

Karel can be contacted at 083 230 8358.  This is a perfect venue for a club competition which should be able to accommodate about 15-20 pegs.
